DIY Pillow and Stencil on Fabric

Lately I've been obsessed with linen fabric pillows and so I decided to make my own linen pillow. I am a beginner when it comes to sewing but I'm working on it! I recently discovered this awesome blog Amanda over at Wit & Whistle is very creative.I was inspired by her DIY stencil text on fabric tutorial, so I decided to make my own pillow and stencil something something fun, like Love in three different languages!

Materials need to make the pillow

Fabric of your choice (I used linen)
Scissors (to cut fabric)
Measuring tape
Non-permanent fabric marker or chalk (I used blue chalk)
If needed a thread cutter tool (I'm a beginner :)

Measurements for this pillow:
H 13" x W 17 1/2"
Seam allowance: 1 inch on all sides

After sewing the pillow it will
measure: H 12 1/2 x W 17"

On one side leave about a six inch opening for the cotton stuffing

Before stenciling remove all wrinkles from fabric

Materials needed for stencil writing

I chose acrylic paint (Martha Stewart satin finish)
Stencil of your choice
paint brush
ruler & pencil (not shown)

For my letters to go on straight I measured 1 inch down and drew
horizontal lines for guidance

I chose the words LOVE, AMOR, AMORE.
Three languages one meaning!

I used poly-fil to fill this pillow.

To close the opened edge I sewed
a blind stitch using a needle and thread.

Here are my final results :)
I definitely want to make more pillows
using other stencils and maybe even
fabric markers.

Thanks for Visiting!

  1. Beautiful I need to try this :)

  2. That is lovely, what a fab idea and so simple, I might have a go at this :) did the pencil lines rub away ok?

    1. Hi Linzy! I am so glad you found this to be a good idea. I used the eraser of the pencil I used, as long as the eraser is a good one, it will work just fine. Thanks for stopping by :))
